Hemorrhagic Stroke

This American Heart Association® initiative, sponsored by AstraZeneca, addresses the need for improved identification and treatment of hemorrhagic stroke patients.

The Hemorrhagic Stroke Initiative is evaluating new efforts to enhance the care of hemorrhagic stroke patients in hospitals and stroke centers across America.

Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of disability. Hemorrhagic strokes make up roughly 10 percent of the nearly 800,000 strokes that occur annually, and they have a higher mortality rate than other types of stroke. Hemorrhagic stroke patients who are treated with novel oral anticoagulants, or NOACs, have an in-hospital mortality rate of 26.5%.

Built on the foundation of Get With The GuidelinesĀ®

Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) is a hospital-based quality improvement program from the American Heart Association that provides tools and resources to increase adherence to the latest research-based guidelines. GWTG is based on the premise that when medical professionals apply the most up-to-date evidence-based treatment guidelines, patient outcomes improve.
